Tempt Me With Darkness – Shayla Black

You can find Shayla here and Tempt Me With Darkness in all fine bookstores.

He’s an immortal knight hungering for satisfaction. . . .

As soon as Marrok sees Olivia Gray, he’s sure they met in eons past. He’s felt her soft, gentle curves writhing in pleasure beneath his own powerful body. . . Morganna! For centuries, towering Marrok, once the mightiest of King Arthur’s warriors, has endured a terrible curse the witch cast upon him when he spurned the witch.

She’s a modern woman about to discover ancient magic. . . .

Olivia shares a mystical—and irresistible—connection with brooding Marrok. Soon after the sexy warrior appears in her erotic dreams, he abducts her, demanding she uncurse him. Their intense passion is more powerful—and intimate—than either of them has ever known. Olivia may be the key to unlocking the diary that will break Morganna’s hold on his life. But in the wrong hands, the book also holds the power to destroy magickind. As they search for answers, a ruthless wizard returned from exile is building an army of evil. When he discovers Marrok and Olivia have the diary, only their love—with the help of a powerful group of magical Brethren—can save them.

I will admit this much to you.  I stumbled upon this book by accident.  I was subscribed to Ms. Black’s newsletter.  Or someone’s newsletter and saw the announcement for this new, upcoming book.  It looked good, so I went and added it to my pre-order queue at Amazon.com and promptly forgot about it.

And then it arrived.

Wow, am I glad that I ordered this book!

While racing against time, Marrok and Olivia try to find the secret to opening the Doomsday Diary and thus freeing Marrok from Morgana’s curse of immortality. They are also forced to exchange energy – through sex – in order for Olivia, an untransitioned mated witch – to remain strong and healthy.

I’m probably going to get yelled at for this but, at times there was a bit too much sex and not quite enough action for my tastes.  But then, honestly, I’m a relatively new convert to romance of any kind, so take that with a grain of salt.  If the sex helps to advance the story line, then I’m all for it.  But there were some times when I was wondering if it was more to fill the pages than anything.

However, with a strong story and likable characters – as well as those you love to hate and even one you’re not so sure about – you almost don’t even notice the bumps in the road along the way to the exciting conclusion. A definite must-read for any fan of the Arthurian legends and Morgan Le Fay.  I’m very excited for the rest of this series.

Dark Lotus – Fiona Jayde

Magik Ink: Dark Lotus by Fiona Jayde

He has been cold for nearly two centuries. A tattoo artist by day and an assassin by night, Kyoto Hajime must kill the ones chosen by Magik to keep the gift from twisting into something dark. Ensuring that monsters like his brother cannot consume the dark power they crave.

Jim’s ink will denote Magik’s choice. He must kill Tia Morse, the woman he had marked with the Dark Lotus -- a Vegas bartender whose touch gives him the warmth he has not felt in years.

Duty must come before desire. But years of discipline may crumble when passion’s fire burns through ice and Magik’s choices are no longer clear.

Dark Lotus is a dark urban fantasy laced with intense emotions and scorching hot sex.  With such an original concept, how could you go wrong?  In a word, you can’t.  You cannot go wrong with this short story packed full of action and desire.

I think I have mentioned before how impressed I am with the way Fiona Jayde can so completely develop her characters in so few pages.  When you leave one of her stories, you take them with you.  This short is no different.  You feel for Jim and are torn between his duty and what his heart is telling him, just as much as he is.  .

And you fear and worry for Tia.  Will he do it?  Will they just ride off into that lovely desert sunset?  Or will love overcome and defeat the evil of the magick?  Guess you’re going to have to wait and see for yourself.

Yeah, I’m evil, and I’m not even Inked.

Sorely Behind

In my reviews.  My apologies.  I am going to start working on that NOW (just don’t tell anyone that I still have reviews from LAST YEAR that I didn’t write yet…)
